Circulation Services

General books for normal loan can be borrowed out at the Circulation Counter. Borrowing privileges for the various categories of users are as follows:-

1. Books

1. Journals Magazine & Newspaper

Currents issues and unbound issues of journals magazine and newspaper are to be used only in the Library.

1. Reference materials

Reference materials are to be used only in the Library. However, academic staff may borrow certain reference materials at the discretion of the Librarian.

1. Audio-visual materials

All audio-visual materials are to be used in the Library. However, academic staff may borrow certain audio-visual materials for 1 week.
General Borrower’s Rules:

1. Borrowers are to produce their library cards when borrowing library materials.
2. No books or library materials be brought out of the Library until the loan has been      recorded. Unauthorized removal of library materials is regarded as a very serious offence.
3. Library materials borrowed must be returned on or before the due date.
4. The normal loan period for books is two weeks. The Library, however, may fix varying loan periods for different types of materials or users as it deems fit.
5. All borrowers must, at the end of each semester, settle any overdue loans before they are permitted to borrow again.
6. Faculty members (Regular and visiting) are required to return the book (s) one week prior to the commencement of the final semester examination.
7. Book(s) will be re-issued if it not required by any other member on the next day but not reissued on the same day. Book(s) will have to be presented at the time of reissue.

1. Overdue books

Books must be returned by the due date or earlier if recalled by the Librarian. Failure to return a book by the date specified will be treated as a serious offence. The Library will endeavor to send overdue notices but will not be held responsible for non-delivery, under whatever circumstances.

1. Fines

Fines imposed on borrowers for late return of books is as follows:-

1. The date and /or time of return shall be indicated for reach item issued.
2. Rupee 5 per day per item, books and serials will be charged on late return.
3. The scale of fines shall be displayed in the library notice board.
4. No further loans will be made to member having items overdue or fines outstanding.

1. Loss and Damage

Borrowers will be held responsible for materials out on loan. If the Library books, material is lost, an immediate report should be made to the Librarian to enable appropriate action to be taken. A borrower is allowed to either replace the book lost or damaged by purchasing it himself or requesting the Library to replace it. If the latter alternative is chosen, the borrower will have to pay twice the market price of the book. All books replaced in this manner must be of the latest edition. If the book is one of a set or series they may be called upon to replace the whole set or series
